Cammon Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos) is a small (about 2,000 pairs) migratory bird that lives on the shores of inland waters (preferably rivers), especially sandy, rocky or with gravel. It feeds on insects, molluscs and crustaceans that it collects on land near water. It flies low over the water in a trembling flight. He runs fast on the ground, stopping and nodding characteristically every now and then. The female and the male are equally colored. Cammon Sandpiper nests on the ground, usually under the cover of bushes or clumps of grass. The female lays 4 eggs which are incubated with the male for 20-22 days. They both look after the young. The young leave the nest a few hours after hatching, and after three weeks they are able to fly. Observation of these birds in Roztocze is an attraction for birdwatchers.
